I’ve been a Birdwatcher for as long as I can remember. As a child I would spend early weekend mornings down the country lanes and across the fields outside my home town. We lived on the edge of a small market town and the target for my early steps in Birding were down the bottom of our road. To help me learn I bought a Bird guide and 2 tape recordings (really showing my age now!) of Bird songs.

I would now class myself as quite a knowledgeable enthusiast, not a Twitcher though I have twitched a bit, more a local patch watcher and day out Birder. Like many Birders I like to photographically record what I see and for many years I persevered with a Sony DSLR and 300mm lens but getting good close-up shots was not easy and it became frustrating (not so with butterflies, but that’s for another blog)

So, just last week I bit the bullet and purchased a Nikon P900. My Birding partner has used one for quite a while and his photos always made me envious. He gets fantastic close-up shots. I’m still learning to get the best out of the new technology that is now in my eager hands but I’m already seeing a difference and I’m loving it!!

I been out with the Nikon 3 times now around my local area. The RSPB reserves of the Dearne Valley and YWT Potteric Carr at Doncaster are superb for common residents and uncommon migrants but then again so is the old pit top at Brodsworth where I live.
For this introductory blog I’m posting my first efforts with the Nikon, hope you enjoy and my next blog will hopefully be a bit more interesting and thought out.
